WHAT IS A STARTER AND ON-BOARD BATTERY?
A BATTERY FOR ENGINE START AND ON-BOARD POWER SUPPLY.
The conventional starter and on-board power supply battery, often called a car battery or vehicle battery, is an accumulator and supplies the electrical current for starting the engine, for example in motor vehicles, emergency generators or aircraft turbines. It is also the power supply for many additional electrical consumers in modern motor vehicles, without start-stop technology.
The starter and on-board power supply battery performs various tasks in the vehicle:
- Even before the starting process, some components are supplied with voltage (injection system, various control units, pre-glow system, ignition coil, ...).
- The starter (starter motor) is supplied with the power required to start the engine.
- Power supply for many electrical consumers such as alarm system, lights, rear window heating, air conditioning, sensors, seat heating, sound system, auxiliary heating, clock and additional consumers with a high energy requirement such as driver assistance systems - for example evasion, parking or traffic jam assistants.
- In the sports sector, the starter and on-board power supply battery is comparable to a mid-range runner, providing full starting power and power for the supply of many more electrical/electronic components.
- In a dual battery system, a starter battery can also be combined with a special additional on-board power supply battery.
- TIP! Banner batteries from the Power Bull series are ideal for this application; an upgrade to Running Bull EFB/PRO is possible.
- Please note: Do not use Power Bull batteries in vehicles with automatic start-stop systems! Running Bull EFB/PRO batteries are also ideal for start-stop vehicles with high energy requirements.
Often referred to in the industry as an SLI battery - Starting, Lighting, Ignition, is a conventional lead-acid starter and on-board power supply battery - with the main consumers being starting, lighting and ignition.
