ON THE SUBJECT: BATTERY CONNECTION - DO NOT
A US fan of online battery knowledge recently emailed the unprecedented realisation of a supposedly easy to read and understand Banner tip. Even relatively straightforward work steps sometimes leave the viewer stunned!
This tip comprises exactly 9 words and reads as follows:
Make sure that the terminal clamps are firmly attached!
So, you really have to let the picture sink in. Battery experts at work? It couldn't be worse! Or is it still?
PS: Maximum tightening torques briefly noted for the sake of completeness:
- Battery connection positive and negative terminals - max. 4 Nm
- Fasten battery with base-hold down - max. 15 Nm (Newton metres)
In the absence of a terminal clamp (battery clamp), an old pipe wrench was simply used in combination with a cable tie. A side note: The new price of the pliers would otherwise have been many times the price of the matching battery clamp.
The battery was installed in a petrol engine, so the vibration load is lower than in a car with a diesel engine.
